The next meeting for the Criminal Justice Interest Group will be on September 14th at 9 am on Zoom. Nikhil Plettner Booker, executive director and founder of “Youth to End Solitary” SD will be our speaker. His group is composed of high school students who are concerned with the use of solitary confinement in our jails when there is so much research that suggests that it is a very poor tool for law enforcement. He will share what they have found and what they are doing to try to make things better. It’s exciting to see how the new technology tools are being used by young people. We hope we can learn from them and perhaps they can learn from us as well.
After the speaker, we will have a report on the recent CLERB meetings and discussion on updating our Jail report and starting our report on Behavioral Health and the Justice system in our county.
