CRIMINAL
JUSTICE

Chair: Jeanne Brown

Meets the second Wednesday of the month at 12:30pm

Participation is open to the public

The goal of the Criminal Justice Interest Group is to gain a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the San Diego County criminal justice system and advocate for best practices.

The current effort to make San Diego County’s jails safer began with the San Diego Union-Tribune’s “Dying Behind Bars” investigation in 2019. This presentation includes that along with multiple other reports that have called for a change to a system that has been in place for too long and has cost too many lives and money to our County.

We hope by seeing the extent of the problem and the number of attempts to improve the situation will move attendees to action. Members of the League’s Criminal Justice Interest Group presented.

Watch video of the Oct. 22, 2025 presentation or read the report.
